    • RESIDENCE-- Library St. in Warrensburg, Warren, NY.

      OCCUPATION -- Pharmacist or "Druggist"

AUTHOR -- I believe that Lawrence was the "Clyde Farrar" that is listed as the author of We Need a Creed: The Invoking and Provoking Verse and Prose of Clyde Farrar which was copyrighted in 1981 and published by Farrar Publishing (25 Library Ave. Warrensburg, Warren, NY 12885). This is a book of poems and stories. A copy of this book is in Shellie Karol-Chik's possession. (Library of Congress Catalog Card No: 81-66310, ISBN 0-9605588-0-2). There is a passage on the back cover of the book that reads:

About the Author: Clyde Farrar was born when the telephone, electric lights and automobile where no longer dreams - but luxuries. When it was time to learn about the world he walked to church and to school. Law makers in those days didn't compel modern, roundabout gas-guzzling busing. None of the schools had calculators or movies then buy they taught the three R's, history, language and geometry. In his teens, he learned to serve sodas and wrap up cure-all nostrums, so he went on to study drugs for a profession. After Lindbergh's flight - and a rousing speech by Floyd Bennett, of his home town - he departed pharmacy for aviation. But then came the great depression; and back to the drug stores. In his spare time he wrote a book of verse: "Rainbow Rhythms". In World War II he served as a medic, in the Army Air Forces. Because of that arduous, grim experience, he wrote his novel: "Celeste - A Better World". Upon reading about vivisection in his own store much later, he learned of animal abuse and joined Citizens League For Animal Welfare. Though solvent from savings in his semi-retirement, he says of his literary ventures: "I've practiced putting thoughts upon paper more than anything else except breathing, eating, and sleeping. But after seventy-four years I'm left with countless rejection slips, my own cancelled checks for vanity publishing, and the consolation that the world has never been delayed by the need to wait for my writing." He only hopes that more people will join our humane societies to help prevent the great cruelties inflicted on other creatures after reading "We Need A Creed".
