      EXPERT HURT SERIOUSLY BY DYNAMITE

Victim of an explosion of a stick of dynamite in a rowboat, William Stone, 29, of Warrensburg, an employee of the State Highway Division who has had much experience in the handling of explosives, is in "fair" condition today in Glens Falls Hospital.

His wife, Mrs. Alice Stone, 26, with him when the blast ripped the bottom off the boat late yesterday, was treated for severe lacerations at the hospital. A third person, Clausson Harrington, Glens Falls, was uninjured and assisted the couple in getting to the shore.

Stone is suffering a concussion of the brain and severe cuts in addition to the loss of four fingers on his right hand. State police reported the Warrensburg couple and Harrington were preparing to remove by blasting a huge tree stump which blocked an inlet near their summer camp.

When the dynamite placed in a crack in the stump failed to go off, Stone thought the fuse had gone out and retrieved the explosive. The blast followed.

The injured couple walked more than a mile to the Bolton Road before they were picked up by a passing motorist and brought 35 miles to Warrensburg for first aid treatment. State police provided an escort to the hospital in Glens Falls.
